May 03, 2010  I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix xrs 6 speed manual transmission. I purchased the car new and have serviced the car with the dealership from day one. Today I brought it in for its 45000 mile service and told them to check the clutch because we noticed it sticking/slipping in 5th gear.

1. Apr 08, 2019  It seems that many Matrix owners are having problems with a faulty transmission bearing which necessitates the transmission needing to be replaced prematurely. I would think this applies to Vibe owners also. We had to replace our five-speed manual transmission on our 2004 Toyota Matrix at 98,000 miles at a cost of $3,100!
2. Jul 04, 2016 2003 Toyota Matrix w/126,000 miles on it. Manual transmission just died suddenly while on the highway. I hear that this is common. This is not my first manual tranny, and car has been treated well. Web check & call to Toyota toll-free number reveal no recall. Toyota denies any knowledge of such a problem.
